When killing bullocks does everyone here take them to 30 months or would you kill out at a younger age?

Condition would come into it to. Irrespective of the age if a few were fit to kill, we'd be moving them along.

Would you not be worried you might be missing out on any extra weight gain before 30 months?

Ordinarily younger cattle will not kill out as well so therefore it is prudent to keep them as close to the magic 30 months as possible. This gets you the QA bonus whilst maximising the kill out %.

That’s the theory but there will always be exceptions to this and other circumstances will also dictate i.e. breed of cattle, condition of cattle, how long are they being fed etc.

To summarise, if the cattle have room left in them, you have grass, the price is holding up, yer not stuck for money, then it’s best to keep them that few months longer………….

I'll be killing 20 bullocks first week of December at an average age of 17 months for suckled angus and 20 months for bucket fed freisans.
My thinking is to flip them on at a young age, they should be around the 650kg mark and kill out at 55% and an "R" for the angus and 53% and an "O" for the freisan.
I don't see the benefit of keeping them for an expensive winter and prime spring grazing season only to put on another ~100kgs...
Also I'll be buying in stock around the 250kg mark as replacements and will be able to fit a good few of these into the shed in their place...

They're brilliant weights. I wouldn't go anywhere near those FR weights.

Serious gains, the Freisians have gained a KG per day throughout their lifespan and the angus around 1.2. What have you been feeding them? On fresh grass they must have been over 2Kg, given that they're not going to do as well indoors?

    As promised:

    22 months LM X HE 386kg R=4-
    27 months LM x BB 406kg U=2+
    29 months LM x BB 479kg U+3-

I think breeding had much more of an influence than age. That last lad was something special from day one. FL22 x SRI

Annoyed I didnt get a bit more meal into him. 3 more kilos and he would have broken the 2 grand mark
