Ideas for a 1.7 x 1.0 m window

    Hey guys,

Just looking for some ideas as to what I could do in this window space.

Currently there is a slide door at the rear of the house in the kitchen. The plan is to block it up to the same sill height as the window on the same wall and stick an additional new window in.

We then plan on continuing the kitchen counter top along this wall with the sink being relocated to the centre of this new window.

I would love to fit something like the picture below but I wonder would it be more of a hazard for kids running around out the back. The window would open straight on to the deck...

I reckon the above might be a bit expensive. At the very least I am putting in a french door type window were both sashs open to 90* with no pillar in the middle of the window frame like below.

Anyone have any good ideas or were I might get a quote for the accordion style window?

    Dave

1.7m doesn't seem that wide. Will you get the full effect of the accordion style, which looking at that image is nearly twice the width of your ope.
850mm should be manageable for two opening sections as per your second image.
Be careful selecting the window manufacturers though as the locking section can be fairly thick in some cases and you'll be looking at this more often than the windows being full open.

    Sorry I should have said.

Id probably still only be looking at two sections but what I was getting at was that the two sections would slide to one side out of the way rather than having two 'hazards' sticking out on to the deck like the second picture would create.

I wonder would I be able to get the windows to open in to one side rather than out. Just inside the slide door at the moment there is a wall so the windows could slide up parallel with it out the way.

Yeah Johnny, thanks for the heads up. The locking section is one thing I will definitely have to check out before picking a manufacturer. They are going to be closed throughout most of the year so they have to look the part when closed too.

It could certainly be done like that and as you say, you won't have two window corners for small ones to hit their heads off.
Unfortunately we haven't ever tendered something like those in the office here so cant give you a rough guide cost wise.
The fact it is only one window though, it should be relatively easy to get a rough estimate over the phone for both options and see where that takes you then
