On JSB, got some casual work

I'm on JSB, only getting about €100 a week. I've been offered some casual work by a friend. It's hourly and it's up to me what pace I work it - so it could be 4 hours a week or 40 hours. It's a maximum of 50 hours total, but can be spread over weeks. Do I need to tell the SW about it? How do I explain it and how will it affect my payment? I don't know how often I'll be paid or anything - might be weekly, monthly or just one lump payment when I'm done.

You need to let you sw office know about this employment. You will probably be advised to change your claim to casual until this work is completed. Are you working in and employed or self-employed capacity?

In my experience the best option would be to ring them on a weekly basis and tell them you are working 1,2,3 days this week and it is temporary work on an as needed basis.

I assume you will be paid all legit and above board, so they shouldn't take an issue with it . They might ask you to get a written statement from employers stating what hours you worked.

Also you won't be able to work more than 3 days a week and claim jobseekers

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
