Only got fraction of back payment

Posting on behalf of another. He signed on on the 31st of May, and signed off on the 17th of July as he'd gotten a job. Last week, a cheque finally arrived, but only for the first two weeks of June, meaning he's still owed 5 weeks of back pay. He had to borrow money to survive while waiting for the payment, then getting his first paycheck, so he needs (not to mention, is entitled to) the rest of the payment. Is it normal for them to send it out only a bit of the back payment at a time? Should the rest be on the way? There was nothing sent out other than a cheque. He works 9-6 every day so he can't even ring them as they never answer, never mind go down there.

    Advice appreciated.

Is there any chance that he missed s sign on date and they only paid him until then? Or was he disallowed for any period of time? Arrears are usually paid in one payment.

No, they contacted him about 2 weeks ago looking for more information (that they actually already had), and the only thing he's gotten from them apart from that is the cheque. He never got a letter saying his claim had been approved, or a letter with any information at all, and he signed off long before they did approve his claim so he can't have missed a sign-on day.

Some office still require signing on while a claim is pending. He should have received a decision letter. I would suggest a call to the local office or an on line query on welfare.ie are the only ways for an answer if he has received nothing in writing other than a cheque. The decision letters issue automatically and a claim must be decided before a payment can run.

Thanks Sue Ellen, he submitted a query through welfare.ie. I wonder if he'll ever hear anything back!
