My brother set up a SKY account yrs ago. He emigrated and I payed for SKY through my bank account with him still as named SKY account holder. I got him him to ring SKY and cancel the account last week. This morning a SKY rep ring my home looking to speak to brother and then looked for his mobile no. which I didn't have off hand. I was informed something along the lines "this account will be ticked off the list", thanked and hung up on.
Does this mean that the cancellation has been revoked ?

If he cancelled and you cancel the DD after paying them their dues then there is no recourse is there? They will be chasing your brother and you can tell them he emigrated. So long as no monies are owing then the calls will no doubt stop.

Ive received a letter in the post stating that SKY will be cut off on a certain date and that Ive a one month outstanding balance which is fine. After that is taken out of my bank account I'll cancel the direct debit. My fear is that SKY will revoke the cancellation because they couldn't cantact the SKY account holder by telephone . The rep mentioned something about " being ticked off the list" which raises alarm bells.

There is an address for them in Dublin somewhere that I saw linked to in another cancellation thread. If your worried about them revoking the cancellation then send them a registered letter acknowledging their cancellation letter and confirming same. Have your brother sign the letter. That way you have a paper trail.

You have a letter saying it will be cut off on a given date. They can't revoke the cancellation unless your brother asks them to which he hasn't. So don't waste money on a registered letter.

Don't forget to cancel the DD after the final amount is taken. Much easier to prevent them taking extra by accident than it is to get it back later.

One strong possibility/explanation for this is that they were calling in an attempt to make your brother an offer to stay. Im sure they keep lists of people who are due to be cancelled or have cancelled and the guy was probably working his way through such a list.

Personally I wouldnt be worried about it especially as you/your brother have written confirmation of the cancellation.

Just cancel your DD now. They will cut you off. If they want to chase your brother leave them off. I never bothered to jump through skys hoops to cancel their service. They'll contact you/your brother to say the DD was cancelled and say "thanks for letting me know" and hang up.

    It works Setanta too.
