My wife was flying from DUB this morning at 9:00, she said her flight was delayed for 20 mins due to an emergency landing by a Delta plane. She said she saw emergency vehicles going to it after landing. Nothing here about yet?

I'm guessing it would be a medical diversion?

Hardly need for the emergency vehicles for just a medical emergency.

Did you really just type that and hit 'Submit Reply'?

No need for emergency vehicles for an emergency? Really?

What would you propose? Open the emergency shoot, let the passenger in question slide down, face first onto the tarmac so the plane can continue on its way?

FWTV is right, an ambulance meets the plane at the gate for medical emergencies. No need for fire truck speeding down the runway behind an aircraft because a passenger ate a dodgy hot dog!

Ah my apologies in that case to FWTV. didn't realise the fire trucks were scrambled.

No hot dogs involved, just jet engines hence the fire cover.

One of the engines is in a bad way and they are going to need to change it before it goes anywhere!

Good chance of an Atlas 747 coming in in the next few days so. :-)

the Fire service do turn out to some medical emergency's but this is ensure the safety of the a/c.

If an a/c leaving the UK or even Europe for the States diverts in, they are usually landing with a higher than normal fuel load, making them very heavy.

This leads to extra braking on landing which can lead to over heating or even a burst tyre. hence the fire cover.

Seeing the report of the engine being shut down due to low oil pressure coupled with the passengers feeling vibrations its fairly safe to assume bearing failure in the engine. In this case, the engine will indeed need to be removed and a spare installed before the A/C can go anywhere. CF6 requires a 747 to transport it.

Does anyone here have insider info that could find out when the 747F is scheduled to arrive?

There is the possibility a european airline with Delta connections could help them out and truck a spare engine in also.

it will be arriving early tomorrow at 0500z

The aircraft is just about over New York currently and the flight time from JFK to DUB is roughly 7 hours 40 minutes so I believe that 8:30 is a more accurate arrival time :)

Eastbound the flight time is nothing like that. The web link I provided gives very accurate information and arrival times are usually within five minutes of estimate.

Does anyone else hate flying Delta? I boarded a similar aircraft at JFK a few years ago. We were sitting at the gate for hours and then the APU failed. They got it going again but not for long.

Flight was finally cancelled and I was never more happy to be getting off an aircraft.

There have been at least two other replacement engines flown into Dublin in the last few months. Delta must be losing a small fortune on this route!

Delta's last one was in February

A replay on FR24 shows the 747 touching down at 0633 local time, which makes for a flight time from ATL of 6hr 55m.

It's just been towed over to the west apron and I believe it is due to leave in the next few hours.

Anyone any idea when this is leaving?

it was supposed to leave at 0745Z on 8/23. However it may leave (or have left) already as CKS needed the 747 elsewhere. The plan is to send N795CK in on Friday morning enroute AMS-DUB-JFK to pick up engine and empty stand. of course this too is subject to change... :-)
