Fed up of being looked down on by your friends who've seen it? Fed up of being left out of conversations at parties when the "have you seen The Wire?" question gets asked? Now you too can own your very own set for the lowest ever amazon.co.uk price of £37.40 (qualifies for free postage).

I emailed HBO in the US on that last year....they said they had no plans to release it on BR.

It's a great show, but if you care about image quality, the US DVDs are the ones to own. The UK DVDs are nasty NTSC to PAL conversions. So there's a lot of interlacing artefacts and magnetic interference. The reason for this is same reason why we're unlikely to see the show on Blu-ray anytime soon: While it filmed in 35mm, it was edited on video. In order to create a HD master, or even a proper PAL transfer, they'd have to re-scan the original negatives. This is David Simon's fault, as he insisted on continuing to produce the show in NTSC even after HD became the norm. In later seasons they even started shooting the show using lower quality film and no longer framing for 16:9 as the DPs had wisely done in the first season.

I'm sure HBO will eventually get around to creating a HD master, but seeing as how they abandoned The Sopranos after releasing one season on Blu-ray, I'm not holding my breath.
