PC based Digital keyboard for strings effects composing and recording

    Hi
    I need to compose a simple sound effect made up of a few notes played continuous. Like an unending cello chord. Most of the software that I've seen is for synth loops and beats stuff however I need a digital keyboard so I can pick the strings notes I want and then record a wav file.

    Does anyone know of simple software to do this job?

    Well how do you want to generate the cello sound? Are you trying to use real samples or some kind of vst emulation?
    Either way you could download Reaper and use the piano roll to input the notes and export as a single pattern.

    You can use Reaper free for 60 days, fully functional.

    Thanks that's great help. Not sure what vst emulation is (sound editing is not my area really ) but I want the sounds to sound as though they were being played by a cello player as a continuous note or reasonably good quality. Its for live playback sound FX. Does that answer your question?

    You could download Kontakt sample player from Native Instruments. It's a free sample player. You'll have to source some cello samples for it though. It comes with a small sample library but I'm not sure if it has cello.
    Now that I think of of I have an orchestral sample pack. It could possibly have cello samples in it (I'll check when I get home this evening).
    If you like you could let me know the loop you want to create and I could do it for you.

    FYI, VSTs are virtual instruments. They tend to be pretty good versions of real instruments but often can sound a bit too 'digital' if you are trying to get a more organic feel.

    Thanks for the offer but not sure what loops I want yet as I need to see what chords sounds good for my FX. Ill try kontakt like you said. Is there freely available VSTs or sample sets that can be downloaded somewhere?

    KVR audio holds a massive database of plugins.

    I'm sure you could find some torrents for free sample packs as some companies offer free packs every now then.
