Removing Mould From Jersey.

    Hello,

I need a bit of help here. Basically, I left a jersey in a damp gear bag for too long and unfortunately there is now mould on a large section of the jersey. I would describe it as lots of spots of mould clustered together on one side of the jersey. It is not too bad but this is an important piece of clothing and I would like to know if there is anything I could do to remove it.

It is a yellow jersey and the mould is green/black in colour. I'm afraid I don't know what material the jersey is made from.

Is there anyway I could remove this mould? Alternatively, would clothes die work to cover up the mould?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, didn't know where else to put this.

I will try and post up a picture later.

If it's a GAA jersey it's probably 100% polyester. You could check the O'Neill's website (or similar) for the fabric composition of a similar jersey.
I've used a paste of lemon juice and salt to remove small mould spots before (work it in with your fingertips and leave for 20 to 30 mins, rinse in cold water then wash in the machine and don't tumble dry as the heat will set the stain if it's still there!), this is backed up by a couple of google searches too, obviously you can't use bleach but the lemon juice and salt works in a similar way to fade the stains without fading the fabric.
Clothes dye won't work as far as I know.

This is a picture of the mould on the jersey - it's an Umbro jersey.

I have just been down this road with all my clothes gone mouldy so i have loads of advice. I ruined loads of my clothing until I got the formula right!
Basically, go to tesco and get (1) Napisan (2) Dettol detergent (it's new in) (3) normal washing powder (4) colour catcher sheets.
Put your jersey in the wash with tonnes of Napisan and Dettol detergent and a normal amount of washing powder. Put a couple of colour catchers in the drum too. Wash at 60 degrees. Should come out ok.
If stains persist, soak in a tonne of Napisan overnight with a few colour catchers in the basin and re-wash as above.
