First time in Wicklow yesterday. Where would the Wicklow Gap (from Laragh) rank in terms of the toughest climbs in Wicklow? Any idea of the average gradient?

Wicklow gap is about 5% . IMO its not as "tough" as say the road from Glencree to Sally Gap. Some people find short/steep hills tougher than long/not so steep hills.

Shay Elliott would be tougher (or at least any time I try it I find it hard!)

Shay Elliot is tough from the Glemalure side but the climb from the Laragh side is gradual and never really too bad.

Slieve Maan from either side would be one of the toughest for me - it's both quite drawn out and also has some nice leg burning sections right in the middle of it!

Most of the big climbs in Wicklow are manageable - it's really the mileage that you've put in to get there which makes them tough. Well, that's always been my excuse anyway! ;)

8% in few places but average from Laragh to the top is 4%. Doesn't seem too hard, at least compared to Cruagh Road > Sally Gap :-)

Even the shorter, less steep ones are tough if you ride up them fast enough.

The climb that keeps giving; Bohernabreena - Grassamucky - Kippure.
