What did you/will you do for your First Wedding Anniversary?

So I'm opening up the floor to anyone who thinks they did something really special for their wedding anniversary.

Ours is coming up soon and I've only a handful of "paper" (1st anniversary according to ppl and google) ideas. One is to print some photos of what we'd done over the last year since our wedding and add them to the album friends made us before our wedding, which had pictures of us since we met.

We're going away to a hotel for the weekend with a just a bit of dinner/pamper. Would also like to celebrate with our family though. Was thinking getting similar flowers and cake (only from a shop!) and having our immediate families over for wine and cake...

I'd just recently given birth before our first anniversary so there wasn't any crazy partying, lol! We had dinner just the two of us and our baba on the actual day, and my husband got me an eternity ring with sapphires in it (our son's birthstone). The hotel where we got married did a thing where they give you a complimentary anniversary dinner so we had that a few weeks later and it was great.

My mum was pregnant with me on her and my dad's first anniversary and seeing as it's the 'paper' one, she got him a book of limericks (something my dad would never buy in a million years). She gave it to him the night before their anniversary and laughed so hard at his reaction to it that her waters broke and she went into labour 3 weeks early, and I was born the following morning on the anniversary. :D

Many people get free nights from their hotel on the anniversary. Our hotel has 3 other hotels so we can use their others so a night away in Galway is on the cards which includes a dinner as well.

    Not married yet.

    That's a lovely story!
I think eternity rings are given on first child or a significant anniversary, like 10 years. So I haven't quite "earned" mine yet

It's nice when hotels give you an anniversary freebie. We failed to think of it at the time (would've been an idea to ask for it at bargaining time), and since ours didn't include it and is very popular for weddings that time of year I think we'll never get to stay or dine at our hotel around our anniversary. :(

Our son was 3 weeks old on our first anniversary. We had a couple of glasses of champagne at home, I fell asleep and woke up when our son needed to be fed.

Our hotel gave us the free night b&b and dinner which we used when our son was 8 months and my mam babysat.

Our son was also 4 weeks old on our 1st wedding anniversary so we didnt do much.

I wouldnt like the idea of having the famliy around to celebrate it though, i think its a very special time to be shared with nobody else.

he took the day off work, so we went for breakfast, then he took our daughter to the park as i set up a paper trail around the house, with a joke present (a will was one :) ) or homemade vouchers on the back of each clue promising him things, for example, he always washes up the dishes, so i promised a night where i would do it for him..etc the final clue led to his main present,

he loved solving the clues, and really enjoyed it.

later in the day we had a meal in the hotel where we got married, our 4 year old joined us and we relaxed together for the evening at home :)

seems many of you had children to consider on your anniversary... so having none I guess we might be in the minority.

Honey-ec, sounds like a tough time for you both to have been apart. Hope it was made up for when you got together again!

Anyone know where I could get this done? It's song lyrics on turtle doves. I'd like to get our first dance song printed on it. It's our 1st anniversary in a few weeks.

    Thanks.

if you look up wishing tree studio, they have their own site and a Facebook page, they do a framed print with lyrics to first songs on them and a picture of the record. kind of like what you're after. I got one for a relative for their anniversary.

I was very pregnant with #1 in my final trimester so we did a weekend away in Ireland. I think I slept a lot as had been working crazy hours in an effort to take early Maternity Leave.

We took a few days off work and had a long weekend down the country. We stayed in our family holiday home for a few nights then used a blue book voucher we had gotten as a wedding present to stay in a suite for 2 nights, had dinner and basically just chilled out. We got each other a small gift, overall it was a very chilled out affair.

We stayed in Waterford Castle and I've booked a Boudoir photo shoot for my wife.
I turned out very well and I was surprised how much joy and confidence the photos gave her!

We are probably unusual in that we don't celebrate our wedding anniversary but the date we officially started dating. We reached 21 years a couple of weeks ago and we spent the day together just hanging out, no kids. It wasn't particularly exciting or amazing but it was lovely just to have a day to ourselves.

Same day for us. We'll probably go for a meal as usual. But we've also decided we'll buy a tree for the garden each year too. Think it's a nice idea.
