LG TV with Built in Satellite Receiver - recommended?

    Hi folks,

I posted a recent thread about the merits of FTA receivers vs TV with Built-in tuners. I came across this one LG 42LN578V Smart 42" LED TV which appears to tick a lot of boxes for me.

However, not being terribly well up on satellites etc... I was wondering if this would work in Ireland with a Satellite dish. It states that it has a "DVD-T Freeview HD Tuner" and I wanted to know if this will work here.

Also if anyone has any expereince with this particular TV I'd appreciate it.

Sorry if this has been answered before on the forum, appreciate any help you can provide!

DVB-T means a terrestrial (through an aerial) signal. FreeView is the UK version of Saorview i.e terrestrial. Nothing to do with satellites or dishes. What you need to look for is DVB-S2.

That tv does have a DVB-S2 tuner, but no mention of the Freesat EPG. Like all recent big-name tvs, it will decode the Saorview signal & show teletext, though I should point out that it isn't on the Saorview approved list. Whether this would have any future implications WRT Saorview reception, I honestly don't know.

It will also play media via usb connected storage. Not sure about recording programmes though.

    Thanks Peter,

TBH LG haven't a lot of info about the tuners on their site - I'm working away from home right now so when I get back home I'll check out the TV physically in a store and see what the connections look like. Thanks very much for your replies!

Interestingly I got a reply back from LG advising me to get a STB!

"Thank you for your email regarding your 42LN578V.
I am going to try my best to resolve your query today! :)
After looking into this matter for you, I would advise you to get a set-top box of some sort as this would give you the widest variety of channels. Using a satellite cable directly or using an STB receiver may not work and is not something we can advise you to do."

Still it's a nice piece of kit for the price :)

That's to cover their ass in case there any unforseen changes in future, basically don't blame us.

I use a 4 yr old Sony sat TV, not Saorview approved, and has been working away guiet happily with Saorview and satellite since I purchased.

Now to cover my ass :D, I'm not saying you should buy it but if I was looking for a sat TV I'd go for it based on my own experience with the above Sony TV.

    Hi,

I am thinking of getting LG 39LN540V from Pwr Cty for €479. Their website says "7 Day Rte Program Guide & Aertel Digital Teletext ".

If anyone has this tv can they confirm the above works ?

    Thanks in advance.

Powercity only sell TVs compatible with Saorview so the 7 day guide and Digital Aertel will work.

I have LG LM620s which has a built in terrestrial and sat tuner. It also has 3d and is smart too!! One issue I have is that the flash player is not updated on it so I can't run rte player - my only grip. I got a samsung for someone else and there is no problem with Rte player

The above works with any recent tv. Do you really see that as a selling point?

The LG LF7700 & the Sony V-series are old models now. Sony & LG don't make Freesat TVs anymore: only Samsung & Panasonic have them in their current ranges.
