I'm in the process of getting into milk. i'm trying to stretch out the cost of set up by buying young stock. I've a batch of heifer calves (15) and i'll get a batch of maiden heifers (25) in the spring which i'm planning to calve down in 2015 .
For all i'm gonna take in off that number i'm thinking i could be better off leasing them out for the 1st year to get money in without the work of milking, keep my full time job and invest the lease money and job savings in more cows to start with a bigger number in 2016.
will there be demand for cows to lease in 2015 or will everyone have their own replacements coming on?
what could i expect to get per head for the year?

I leased cows this year and will have them until 31st jan 2014, cost per year is usually worked out at 10-15% of market value, the owner will not get back the same cows but he wil get cows of same average lactation, EBI, calving date etc...., I will stress I have a very good relationship with the lessor and I believe that this is key for any cow lease to succeed
