Does anyone use the on-campus self service laundry facilities beside the Buttery? How much does it cost to do a medium-sized wash and/or dry? Are there queues or anything?

I tried getting this info from the TCD website but to no avail.

Yeah, lots of people use them. If you live on campus, it wouldn't really make sense not to. Can be busy at times, especially at the weekends and especially Sunday afternoons, so you'd be better picking other times. Access is by swiping your student card. I can't remember the price, but it is dear - something like €4 for a wash (its by machine so it doesn't matter how big the load is) and to get things properly dry would be another euro or so I think.

^ All correct! Standard wash is €4, but you can do a slightly longer wash for €4.40. Drier costs 40c per 20 mins. Usually would take 40-60 mins to get your clothes dry depending how much you have.

All the residents who don't bring their washing home to Mammy at the weekend use them, I'm pretty sure. It's €4 for a wash, and €1 to get things properly dry. The machines are quite big though.
I've never seen a queue, but that might just be the times I go.

Also note the machines only take coins, and don't take coins below 20c. That can be annoying.

Hey guys - one more question.

Are laundry services restricted to people who live on campus? I tried using my normal blue student card this week & it wouldn't let me in.

    Thanks!

Not as far as I know. I just use my student card, and it would be a lot of effort for them to designate which cards belong to residents, so I doubt they do it.

One of my friends who lived off campus used it all least year without a problem.

Ah when I was living on campus between 05-06, a wash was three euro and one machine accepted 10c coins as euro coins in error. Needless to say, there was always a queue for that machine but staff obviously copped on to what was happening!
