Codemasters are putting together classic tracks and cars for the new game. It comes in 2 different versions, the normal one with some classic elements and a special edition with more.

    Standard Edition:

    2013 season content.
    1980s content.
Including World Champion drivers Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi & Mario Andretti, as well as Gerhard Berger and many more to be announced in the coming weeks.
    5 classic cars.
    Classic tracks: Brands Hatch, Jerez

    Limited Edition:

    2013 season content.
    1980s content.
Including World Champion drivers Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi & Mario Andretti, as well as Gerhard Berger and many more to be announced in the coming weeks.
    5 classic cars.
    1990s content.
Iconic drivers, including World Champions Alain Prost & Jacques Villeneuve, as well as Eddie Irvine, David Coulthard and more to be announced at a future date
    6 classic cars
Classic tracks: Imola, Estoril, Brands Hatch, Jerez

Pity about no Senna or McLarens, Codemasters state that they are tied up in other agreements.

No classic Benetton Schumi either by the looks of things, but they do say that more content will be released later and even if you miss out on the 10,000 Limited Edition copies the data will be released as a download later.

I don't even care if they have sorted out the unrealistic damage and other annoying glitches, 6 year old me is ecstatic at the prospect of finally being able to play as Nigel Mansell in a Williams on a modern platform:D

List of Cars and Teams in Each Version

    Press Release and FAQ

And Murray Walker is back commentating!

Basicly its a motorsport version of the PGA "Seniors" Tour.

They did this before years ago, with the likes of Nigel Mansell,Emerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti and other old F1 drivers all racing in similar F1 style cars around various international race tracks.

Think you may have misunderstood, it's a game with classic content and not some form of ATP or PGA Seniors Series/Tour.

The last F1 game that I can remember with classic content, and I may be wrong, was the Grand Prix Legends game on PC. It really wasn't the best.

F1 Career challenge had 4 seasons worth of car, track and and driver changes, but couldn't be classed as "classic content".

As a first F1 game to have ever tried GPL really was ahead of its time. Still couldn't get the Brabham to turn into the corners though (didn't figure out the braking on the keyboard).

You have to laugh at them choosing Coulthard as a team 'legend' for Williams, you'd think Keke or Piquet would be more appropriate.

Annoying it's so close to GTAV. Will definitely get it though. I haven't bought one of these since 2010 but this one has enough to tempt me. I assume the frame rate dropping really low in places has been fixed since 2010?

 Get out! GPL is still one of the finest racing games every realised and with the high res mods it looks and sounds fantastic. Its far better than this current crop of F1 games.

    +1 to the above.

I'm not really sold yet on this new classic content. From the FAQ it only has 4 tracks, '80s content only has 5 different cars (2 Williams, 2 Lotus and 1 Ferrari) and '90s has 6 (3 Williams and 3 Ferrari)? Not a great variety but I suppose they do say it's only the beginning.

I've bolded the problem for you. GPL was never meant to be just a "game" like the codemasters stuff, it was a sim and still stands the test of time as that IMO. It's a absolute ba$tard to play with keys though LOL. When it came out in 98/99 it was hard to get it to run on anything but the top PC equipment that didn't help it either. Still though I love to fire it up once in a while and thrash around nurbergring or Silverstone, get mah trailbrake on!
