son has about 15 on legs, upper body, neck, shoulders, arms.
    i have similar.

we walk our dog in meadows around leixlip and celbridge and walk around the canal too. i deliberately cover us up, so whatever it is, it's biting through clothes.

don't think they are horseflies (not as itchy, swollen and angry), so am curious. midges, mossies? they are a nasty bite alright but not as severe as horseflies.

    husband totally unaffected.

thanks, i know it's a bit of a pointless post.

Mosquitoes can bite through clothes, all right. Generally angrier/lumpier than midge bites, I think.

Difference with a horseflies is you will feel the bite. It hurts. I know this. Spend plenty of time hunting in mountainside and farmers fields. They leave a nasty bite. But if you can't feel it I'd go with midges.
Hot days like we having now will have em all around.

I'm thinking way outside the box here, but are you sure you were definitely bitten by insects?I was out walking the dog the other night and saw a bramble laden with blackberries,so ate half a dozen or more;the following morning I woke to find loads of hives on my upper body, arms and legs. The blackberries contain histamine which can lead to one breaking out in hives.I know it's a long shot, but did you eat any blackberries whilst out walking that evening by any chance? The appearance of these bite marks? on your upper body would seem strange if you were well covered up!
