India and emerging markets

Emerging markets, especially India have taken a pounding recently with worries over the plunging Rupee, inflation and current account deficit. There has been a large withdrawal of foreign investment which is driving everything down.

I think this could be a good long-term buying opportunity as there is still huge potential in emerging markets. I'm looking at ETFs such as INDY and ICN. I suppose it comes down to a punt on is this going to be an Asian crisis 1997 job or are the recent falls a bit overdone. I'd be interested to know peoples thoughts on India and indeed any other emerging markets you think are undervalued.

I'm sure people said that about Europe in 2009, Thailand in 97 etc. There's pretty much always a recovery and there's a lot of money to be made from it if you call it right.

I'm not talking about putting the life savings in it, it's obviously highly speculative but the rupeeis at all time lows.

long term everything will increase due to inflation. There is no need to get in at the absolute bottom or out at the top.

There are better opportunities elsewhere for the next 1-3 years.
