New monitor

On a bit of an upgrade spree recently

I have a 22 inch Asus monitor, 4 or 5 years old, 1680x1050 - 2 ms response time, looks perfect in games, but has now started emitting a low electrical whining noise, I presume its on its way out

    Are modern monitors much better?

I'd prefer matt not glossy, and no ghosting in games, budget about 150, any suggestions, thanks

Thanks, think I'll try an IPS - will avoid the glossy ones though

Some people are complaining these "cheap" IPS monitors are not good for gaming..

I am currently looking at buying the LG 24EA53

I have the previous LG model tot he ones listed, cant see any ghosting, specs say a 5ms response.

A fair amount of people have bought them on here at this stage, if your lucky some might post up their opinions after using these specific models for a while

I just bought one of these IPS monitors, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-052-DE&groupid=17&catid=510. It's been fine for gaming.

I bought THIS monitor a few weeks ago.The display is sharp, colours are beautifully represented, low response time for gaming. And the price is awesome for such a good piece of kit, €150 delivered? Can't go wrong!

The stand is pretty rubbish on it tho being honest and it's clearly where they kept the costs down, but as long as you're not swinging out of your desk it's more that adequate for the job.

Taken from another thread but really can't fault it. It does have a gloss finish which I would prefer matt but the bezel is very slim and I never notice I even though it's in the sitting room which can be quite bright and the window is actually behind me. Have had no issues while gaming at all, I would definitely recommend it.

Looks good, can actually buy it from a bricks and mortar shop for 159, so will pick it up

dont want to hijack this thread am looking at new IPS Monitors for Eyefinity...need three

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-23EA63V-i...dp/B00BJHBUW0/ looks pretty good.. Really small sides,, so are ideal,,

The problem is, go one Large monitor or go three... (soon as I get the Second GPU and Crossfire setup)

Be aware that the pictures are misleading with that monitor and some of the other thin-bezel LGs. It's thinner than standard but a lot bigger than advertised pictures would suggest.

    Another option is a 29" widescreen (2560x1080)

21:9 tis a nice aspect ratio to play games on and you get lovely peripheral vision in games albeit at the cost of vertical height/resolution.

I'd much sooner have a single large 1440p screen.

I never liked the look of a triple monitor setup. The borders ruin it and the side monitors do nothing except make your FOV look totally out of proportion in a game.

The super wides are worth considering though.

Just returned one of those LG super wides to amazon the other day. I was thrilled to see it was rev.1 and new firmware but unfortunately mine had backlight bleed on left bottom and three fingerprint sized damaged areas of pixels showing pink on a dark screen. Cannot fault amazon though. RMA process was a doddle, prepaid RMA return label for An Post (ships to return warehouse in Rathcoole) day 1. Return received and acknowledged by email day 2 and visa account credited day 3.

In my case I was actually glad there was a fault. I had ordered it at 3am one night after reading about the new 21:9 monitors. It's never a good idea to make any purchase decision at 3am in the morning! :D

It was a fabulous looking screen but the fault made me really think about it rationally. I don't game at the moment and neither do I use applications which would really make use of the extra width (photoshop etc) Basically for my current usage patterns I had just bought myself unused space at the sides.

For people who like multiple program windows open at the same time, photoshop etc users and gamers, this screen should really come into its own. Never mind 2.35:1 movie watching!!

I'd take my faulty monitor RMA experience as a positive rather than a negative tbh. Ie buy safe in the knowledge that a RMA if needed will be painless and hassle free.

Now, off I go to start a thread about these cheap Korean 27" 2560x1440 IPS displays I've been reading so much about.....

Due the space Restrictions I have Re: Desk, Im totally sold on the 1 Larger Monitor...

29" or bigger,,, Will read through all the catleap monitors,,, You recommend?

I'd stick with 27". There are issues with the larger ones. This is the one everyone is buying lately. It's supposed to overclock to 120hz as well. You can get versions with additional connectivity (hdmi, display port, dvi) instead of just dvi but I don't think they overclock. They cost more as well.

There's lot's of good ones though depending on what kind of stand you want. Gloss or matt screen. The panels are usually the same.

27" vs 29" in display area. Both will be around the same price for a good one.

I recently picked up a Dell 29". Very happy with it and like the extra width in games. Borderlands 2 really looks great in wide screen.

The down side is that not all games support the 2560x1080 res which means you either stretch the image to fill the screen or play with a huge black border and have the same screen area as a 23".

A 27" will have better support but will need much more gfx grunt to run it. It will also have better vertical height in games and general use.

I just ordered the 24" LG from Amazon so will let you know what it's like when it arrives!

    EDIT: Never mind....

That whining noise happened to my monitor too OP. Have you tried maxing out the brightness? Completely fixed it for me.

Just bought this, hasn't arrived yet. 120hz is where its at for gaming. Most of the quake live players I know has said it's added about 10% to their game.
Guys I usually go 50 : 50 against are owning me since they bought one, so it must be true.
