Hi there could somebody please tell me if your GP can refer you to see a counselor and is this service free to medical card holders, I can not afford to see any of the therapists that do the reduced fee sessions for the unemployed etc as I simply can not afford the €20 fee, I really need to speak to someone ASAP and if the GP can refer me to a counselor when would I actually get to speak to him/her time wise, Thank You for any advice you can give me.

The HSE have a variety of mental health staff ranging from counsellors to psychologistts (a GP referral is probably required). Your GP may even have counselling training themselves and they will know what services are available in your area.

Visit your GP and talk to them.

Even though you may not be able to afford the counselling, some places may take you on regardless. I would ring a few places, you will be surprised how nice people can be when you need support. Best wishes

I ended up getting the counselling for 5 euro a week in the loretto centre in crumlin.

It was very helpful, thank you.
I would highly rate this place and their counsellors are brilliant.
