Greetings. I have installed a non boiler stove and am somewhat regretful that i didn't hold out to get a boiler stove installed, as i figured it would be too much hassle and expense at the time. Is it possible to install a boiler onto my existing stove? Its a Stanley Tara.

That model only heats 5-6 rads. It would be better to buy a boiler stove maybe you could sell on the tara and buy a boiler model.

As far as I know you can't retro fit a boiler into that stove. As suggested sell on your stove and buy a boiler one.A half decent boiler one will set you back €1200-€1800 and installation and plumbing in the region €750-€1300 depending on setup

It's funny, because right now, our Stanley Tara is sitting in the hall, after me taking it out of the hearth yesterday.

We did the same as you GorMulls and having looked into it, the boiler can't be retrofitted as Robbie has said above. You have to change the whole stove.

We're gonna end up having to get the bedroom floor chased above for water pipe and chased up the side of the chimney breast/brace? in the sitting room, replace hot tank with a twin-coil but I hope it'll be damn worth it!

FWIW, we're getting a Boru Carraig Mór 20kW to heat 9 radiators.

It'll be well worth the hassle,
did the same and didnt use any oil last winter,
stove has paid for itself in a year or 2 :D

Thanks for all the above suggestions. It is a shame that i didn't hold out for a back boiler model. I was hoping to heat 5 rads and possibly to small floors (as in underground heating). I just can't get my head around thinking that it couldn't be too difficult for a clever fitter to be able to install two pipes out of the back of my Tara stove.

    Good to know.

I have the stove sitting in the hall on a pallet, all I need now is the plumber to come and destroy the house to fit it!:D

    Gormulls, Byte

I am in the market for a Stanley Tara non boiler stove .. if either of you still have one ?

Although you have got me thinking now .. maybe I too should be considering a Boiler stove.

Its prob going to cost the guts of a €500 for a stove and €1000 to even install the non boiler stove, not to mention what it would cost to go boring holes in walls and installing the Rads and replacing the Hot Water cylinder etc. if I went for a Boiler Stove option.

Incidently I currently use Electric oil heaters in the rooms which I use (about half the house) .. I find them great .. little bit expensive on Electricity but really quite and they don't dry out the air or anything.

How could it heat rads if it has no boiler?

I've sold my Stanley Tara a long time ago now.

I'm very happy with my new Boru, and the upheaval wasn't too bad, the lads cleaned up well after themselves. I think it was well worth the bother anyway.

In your situation, LittleVillage, I'd imagine it'd be a very costly experience if you don't have existing central heating radiators, etc. You should get a few estimates from plumbers to get an idea as to how much it'd roughly cost.
