I am going into Human Health and disease in september. I wanted to find out some alternatives to The halls. If there are any other incoming first years looking for someone to share with, please let me know. :)
Also, if anyone has any recommendations for other alternatives to the Halls, I'd appreciate the advice.
    Thanks In advance!

I stayed there as a postgrad. Personally I would recommend Mountjoy or possibly something run by the Simon Community. If it makes you feel better tell people it is an apartment block owned by Simon Lebon.

The best thing you could do is go to a student residence of some sort. Just google it. I would say stay away from Griffith Hall of Residence. Other than that search on daft and rent. They both have a student portion of their website. These places tend to be a little run down though. Don't leave it too late to get a place as many landlords and others don't want to share with a student.

I heard from someone in the accommodation advisory that all of the student residences are full with waiting lists, some of them have been gone since June

I think OP means for first year. They are all free I assume.

Doesn't matter what year you're in, places in Griffith, NCI, Herbeton etc. got snapped up this year.

Yeah a lot of the student places seem to be gone. :(

I'm having trouble finding a place though, it's just me and one other person looking for accommodation, both going to trinity. All we're looking for is a small and affordable 1 bed (double :P) flat that isn't too far from the city centre. We've found a few that could potentially suit alright, but there are few hiccups you have to watch out for when going down the private route. I've bookmarked a few and I think tomorrow we're going to ring around and see if we can organise a few viewings but it's a very daunting experience. :/

Every 1 bed apartment I looked at had the bed in the kitchen. Which is illegal. I really wanted to live on my own but am back living with others. It has worked out but still.
Always thought NAMA would be able to sort out something in terms of some of its properties. Some could be made into student accommodation very easily, like the Montrose Hotel.

Yeah a lot of 'em billed as "studio apartments" have that alright and it's not great, we've agreed we need the bedroom separate from the rest of the house. I have found one or two that look good, one is right on trinity's doorstep but looks like it could be a bit too run down for my liking, and one is further out but looks like it might be passable.

The SU have an accommodation advisory service, never needed to use it myself but might be of some use to new students!

So with Halls, can you apply for a twin room with someone of the opposite gender? And will you then definitely get the room either with that person or not at all then, like there's no chance we'd both end up with different roommates?

And what's the payment structure like? I can cover the cost of Halls so long as it's spread throughout the year and not in lump sums.

Might apply if this is the case, though we weren't too keen on halls. It's a deadly place by the sounds of things, but the rooms are not very couple friendly with the two single bed set up! I'd rather that than living in a tent on campus cos I couldn't find somewhere though! :P

THere is a couples section in trinity halls with couple apartments. i am not sure if you would be eligible for them though. I don't think they allow mix gender apartments.
As for the money it was paid in 3 lump sums throughout the year. I think it is on their website.

You can take the room for the year and then leave. If they fill your room then you receive money back etc. If they do not then you have to continue to pay. Last year people left at Christmas and they managed to fill rooms. It has to be Halls that fills the room and not you. Suppose you are taking a small risk there.
I think there is an option where you can take a place only for one semester but you would probably want to phone them and ask.

Do you think that the halls are worth the price for 1st year? :)

Ok after three days of desperate living in Dublin, thirty nine phone calls and eight viewings, I have finally managed to get student accommodation. It is so so difficult right now now for students to get a place to live. If you are up against ANY working professional for a place, the landlord will nearly always pick them over you. I would strongly recommend anyone to go for halls if at all possible, it is far more likely you will get a place, as long as you make sure to write a decent personal statement on your application. (ie any volunteer work, willness to meet new people and make an effort.) Also halls is a fantastic place to live and trust me you will be very hard pressed to find somewhere cheaper right now...

If you still want student accommodation, print off an A4 page with any good references you and you sharing friends have. Most valuable are previous landlords, but naturally many do not have these. Next most important is work references, landlords like these. Finally if at all possible bring a parent or two as it often helps negotiations, especially if you are in first year.

Ashling is in the accommodation office in house 6 in trinity, she will have a chat with you and is very helpful. However there are really only digs / owner occupied rooms available though the trinity lists. Of course if you can't get a rented place, digs are good idea to try till christmas, because many students leave around then because they either were on erasmus or drop out, which frees up some rental space.

I wish you all the very best of luck and let me know if you want any more advice

Hello all! I have accommodation in Sanydmount. There may be a room beside me that's available. The house has a bus stop right outside the door. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll see if anyone has rented it out yet! :)

I'm struggling with accommodation so if anyone has anything suitable for trinity college would they send me on a PM? I'm looking with a group, but we're having trouble finding a house to suit us alll, so I need something in the pipeline in case we can't get anything.. :/

I'm in the same situation. If I can't leave freely at Christmas then it might be a bad idea for me to go to halls :(
