Hi all, I need advice. I gave up work to be a stay at home mum after we had our last child 2yr ago, it was more a matter of having to give up because we couldn't afford childcare. I was only earning about #200 a week so it was just eaiser to cut back on everything and be a mum for a while, anyway the youngest is now 3 and starting playschool. We are really starting to struggle with the bills so Im looking for a part-time job. When I gave up work I didn't claim anything and im wondering can I claim jsb while looking for work?

You can only claim JSB or JSA if you are available for, and genuinely seeking full time work.

I am avaible 5 days a week from 9in the morning till 12 and have already applied for a couple of jobs, people said when I gave up work that I should go sick for a while or claim on my stamps for a year but I'm to honest, but my question is can I claim jsb if there is a gap between giving up work and looking for work

You can claim JSB if there is a gap as long you have sufficient contributions in the relevant tax year(2011). You won't satisfy the conditions of Jobseekers if you are only available from 9 until 12 5 days per week, you need to be available for full time work.

If your husband is working more than 19 hours per week you could apply for FIS.
