    A good pair of external/desktop speakers is the way to go. You're not going to get top quality audio from a Laptop with those specs tbh. You can get good quality Creative speakers for reasonably cheap too.

    As for Windows 8, you can use Start8 ($5) or Classic Shell (free) to get a proper Start Menu and disable hot-corners, and TinyWindowsBorders to reduce the size and padding of the title bars. I use Start8 and TinyWindowsBorders myself, very handy.
