Towbar for BMW 5-Series Touring

    Hi,

Looking for recommendations or advice on fitting a tow bar to a 2011 5-Series BMW Touring. Just got a quote from the main dealer for €1500

What I found strange was there is an official BMW bike carrier which 'clips on' (no tow-bar needed but other prep in behind the bumper) for about €1000 but that is still a bit over budget!

Any recommendation for tow bar fitting in Cork ?

Main use will be for a bike carrier but want a full tow bar with electrics etc so I can add lights to the carrier if required.

    Thanks!

Speak to Murray Tow Bars. He fits our bars in Cork.

Don't think I've had one fitted to a new model 5 series yet, but I'd say half the cost of the dealer option, or less.

He fits either Brinks or Witter tow bars, so a reputable make. I know a few main dealers use him down there, rather than fitting official parts.

Probably worth pricing up a detachable one as well as a fixed one. Detachable are usually around €150 more than the fixed, but easily removed when not is use and much better than having a big, ugly tow bar sticking out the back of the car all the time.

Thanks, actually rang them earlier and indeed cost quoted is less than half of the main dealer. In my head I thought a tow bar would cost 200-300 but I guess I was wrong :)

I was quoted €800 by a local mechanic for a 3 series hitch 2 years ago,
I went to a car breaker in Tralee and took a hitch off a scrapped car, identical car to mine, so saw exactly how to get it off and had the correct bolts and plates, i lifted d carpet in d boot of my car and saw that there were punch marks where to drill, took bout an hour to fit,
    How much , €25
Not joking , €25 I did d labour bout 3 hours in total
