    Hi all

Getting married abroad next year and Im told I need the following:

    • Pre Nuptial Enquiry

    • Baptism Certificate

    • Confirmation Certificate

    • Freedom Certificate or copy of the Civil Marriage

    • Testimonial Letter

Not sure where to start in getting these - could someone help me out?

The Baptismal and Confirmation Certs will be available from the parish office in the parishes where you were baptised and confirmed.

Thanks - do I need to pay for these?

    What about the other certs/letters?

Not a clue. I think the letter of freedom is to say you haven't been married in any other parish you've been living in. Not married so I can't confirm costs. I'd imagine if there are any they'd be fairly nominal.

All of above come from the local priest, so arrange to meet him, or the parish secretary.

Pre nuptual enquiry is the letter saying you have been baptised and confirmed and not already married.

Freedom cert is similar, just a letter from the priest saying all is above board and you can marry in another parish. It IS the testimonial letter I thought... same thing?

Maybe ask your parents for the confirmation and baptism certs. Mine had them.

If you need a copy, they are usually 2 or 3 euro from the parish office.

    .

Could be wrong but I think you need all three because it's conceivable that you could never have been married in a Catholic church but still got married civilly. So I think one of them is obtained from the registrars office. Just thinking back to a mate who got married in Italy and she needed documents from both the church and state if I remember correctly.

thanks again - as regards the letter of freedom...do i just need this from my home parish (dont live there anymore) or do i need it from every parish that I have lived in? I think I read that somewhere...
