    Hello,

I am looking for some advice on parts I bought, A Motherbored ( ASROCK Z87M Extreame4 )and graphics card ( EVGA GTX 760). My Processor i7 870, a 1156 pin, didn't fit into the new Extreame4 mother bored, a 1150 pin.

I am now stuck and wondering if I should send the new mother bored back and purchase a different 1156 pin mother bored for my current processor i7 870 or just buy a new processor that will fit the z87m Extreame 4?

The processor I am considering is the a Intel core i7-4770.

    http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb_01com/80011110/intel_core_i7_4770__3_4ghz__socket_1150/details.aspx

My question is this, is it worth buying a new processor for my z87m Extreame4 mother bored or keep my current i7 870 and just get a new 1156 mother bored that fits it? Will I see a noticeable different between the i7 4770 vs i7 870? What is my best option for gaming?

    Any help is appreciated!

Definitely a new CPU - the 4670k is a solid bet, or the regular 4670 if you're against overclocking...which would be a shame though. :D

    Hi Terror,

thanks for replying. I have looked up some reviews and that I5 seems to be fantastic value/performance.

Go for the 4670k and a decent cpu cooler to overclock it. You have a good board for overclocking and they are great overclocking chips. It would be a shame to waste that potential.

I'd go for one of these with a 4670k. Make sure they fit your case.

In review its says that I5 has a issue with overheating even with water cooling?! Can anyone comment about that?

Link? It's probably referring to a stress test using the new AVX instruction set.

    Don't worry about that.

He doesn't say what he used to stress test. If it was something like IntelBurnTest I wouldn't worry about it.

That always pushes temps way higher than the majority of tasks, including gaming, will.

And much more so with Haswell. It's basically useless, actually. It was useful with Ivy to quick check stability. You wouldn't be able to stress Haswell with large ffts/IBT etc at stock settings with stock cooling. It will insta hit 100 deg and start throttling.

I have a 4770k. You have to understand, the reviewers experiencing overheating chips are putting the card through unrealistic loads; in addition, stress tests that utilise the new AVX instruction set are particularly good at bringing a CPU to its knees temp-wise. I have a high end cooler on my chip and it reaches 100 degrees almost instantly in IBT (which uses AVX). In gaming it doesn't go over 65 (and this is with a nice overclock of 4.6ghz - the CPU comes at 3.5, with a small 3.9 ghz overclock).
