    €269

    4.7 Android

I think that's an excellent price.

Its not android 4.7 lol Its a 4.7 inch screen and it runs android 4.2.1

    Yeah that's a typo.

Oppo started off doing high end blue ray players.

Their current flagship is the Oppo Find 5 and its had great reviews.

Their customer service is great and they make it easy to install stock Android or root the phone, if that is something you like to do

Its using the same Sony sensor thats in the the Xperia Z, just at lower Resolution
But their translation service is crap
On that webpage it says "Sony Exymor BSI", when its a Sony Exmor RS.

Wont the phone be quiet big if the screen is 4.7 and using physical buttons instead of on screen virtual buttons?

I'd say the phone would be around the same size as the htc One/GS3/GS4/Ativ S

1gb ram and 1.2ghz processor :( with a screen that large it'll be struggling with newer apps coming out that require more ram etc there are alot better phones out there in that price bracket...its really not future proof!

It is a Quad core CPU. To be honest it's similar specs to the HTC One X(Released just over a year ago) and it's price is that of a cheaper used One X.

It's thinner, lighter, same screen and a bigger battery and the One X is considered a very good phone. The Find 5 has received some brilliant reviews so if this is half the phone it's not one to miss.

It's also Factory Unlocked and Network branding free which is a big plus vs most phones in that price bracket that are better.

I got a similar spec phone (5.0", Android 4.2.1, Dual Sim/Standby, Quad-core, 1.2GHz unlocked) for less than half the price of the Oppo.

    What is it?

    Any link to buy it?

This was the one I got (there were further discounts on the price when I bought it), you could probably find it cheaper elsewhere.

    This one's pretty good too

    http://www.focalprice.com/MH0508W/Star_S7189_50_Android_421_Quad_Core_MTK6589_12GHz_3G_Smartphone.html ~ €122

4GB ROM as opposed to 8GB
    Display is 960x640 vs 1280x720

4GB ROM as opposed to 8GB
    Display is 960x640 vs 1280x720

A few things to note as to why the price is lower:

Warranty? There's no mention of one, Oppo supplies one.

Updates/patches/OS versions? Oppo supplies updates to customer, their custom Color ROM or just stock android, both available via their site meaning they've made sure everything is functional and if there are issues these can be fixed.

Bluetooth, v2 on the FP phone, v3 on the Oppo( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth#Bluetooth_v3.0_.2B_HS)

Wifi, b only on the FP phone, b/g/n on the Oppo.

Yes it's over €100 cheaper, but there is a reason you see people carrying round HTCs/Samsungs and iPhone over these phones.

If you could buy those phones in your local vodafone/o2/meteor shop, people would buy them.

Look at Huawei, they couldn't keep them in stock at one time.

It's all about accessibility, only a minority of people will buy phones from China.

Don't see why anyone would buy this, you can get much better phones from better known manufacturers for only a bit more (or less in some cases if you buy second hand).

Personally with unbranded items its a risk I'm willing take warranty wise, I haven't had any major issues so far and when I have had any, they've been resolved in the same way as if I had bought from a major brand.

I know my way around the OS so I can do the updates myself when it comes to it.

Excellent so far, I just took a punt at the time as the price was hard to resist and it's far exceeded my expectations. Battery life is about 52% after a day and a half of use (got a spare with the phone). Camera quality is pretty good too at 8MP. Couldn't really ask for more. The Dual Sim feature comes in handy too which was the main reason I bought the phone in the first place.

To be fair Oppo are a well known, respected manufacturer and the Oppo Find 5 was arguably the best phone on the market before the Snapdragon 800 was released.

It would be best if people actually posted links to these better phones instead of just saying they exist...

oppo and huawei are decent brands. i think huawei is pronounced ha-wey. they should have rebranded fot the wesht.

will deffo look at that oppo when it is a few months out.

i have been fairly pissed off with top brands charging top prices. example current phone S3 motherboard died within a year. previous phone HTC sensation millions of things went wrong. so my thinking is, those well known high price brands give trouble too.

so no harm to me to try something a bit more budget conscious, they might work a bit harder to get a good product out there to build consumer confidence.

Exactly. Those posts are pretty meaningless without a link or some other to back them up and I'd love to see one of these better phones.

I've heard great things about the Oppo Find 5 and this looks like a very solid phone and very competitively priced.

    Comparison with the Nexus 4.

    Oppo R819 Pros
    Dual-Sim
    29g Lighter
    1.8mm Slimmer
0.6MP Higher Front Camera (Probably barely notice a difference - Same Software)
    Stereo FM Radio
    €100 Cheaper

    Nexus 4 Pros
6ppi More (Hardly notice much difference)
    1GB More RAM
    Corning Gorilla Glass Protection
    Better Data Connectivity
0.3 GHz Higher Clock Speed (Probably barely notice a difference)
    100mAh Bigger Battery Capacity
    Better Android Upgrades

Have to say I'd have a hard time deciding which of these is better. It is a pity they didn't throw in an extra 1GB RAM, the Better Data Connectivity and charge an extra €50 - €75. That would sell me on it.

Does anybody know if this price is only for pre-orders or if it will also cost that much when it is released?

€10-20 below asking and you've a better phone. Saving a few euro for the sake of community support isn't worth it imo.

Just to everyone going to buy Chinese phones , there cheap but for a reason i know people inc myself who have bought all different types of Chinese phone and everyone has had problems and its a night mare to get it sorted, most of the problems i had was the soldering they use comes loose quite quick around the micro usb/charging port. Makes the phone useless then.

And another note , mediatek the chipset used in these phones the MT6589 is the older one they have release a new MT6589T which is clocked at 1.5ghz. And on the topic of chipsets id also like to ad that mediatek are getting ready to release an octacore cpu with big.LITTLE in use like the Samsung octa.

So personaly if i was going to buy a chinese phone right now it would be this http://www.geekbuying.com/item/iocean-X7-PLIS-5-0-Inch-IPS-FHD-OGS-Screen-MTK6589T-Smart-Phone-1GB-RAM---16GB-ROM-13-0MP-Camera-with-3G-GPS-Black-317563.html

Or id hold off till the octa core ones will fall some time in the next few months.

I think it's important to but some perspective on things. 99% of Chinese phones use the same components as this Oppo, and have the same specs, but for half of the price. The MediaTek MT6589 chipset, used in many, many cheap Chinese phones, has known issues with the GPS. There is currently a discussion on it over on the Android forum. Something to bear in mind!

Anyway, from what I have read, Oppo is one of the better Chinese branded phones but the likes of Huawei (which I was told is pronounced like Ferrari, but with a H :D ), Lenovo, ZTE and Xiaomi offer just as good, if not better, quality. Again, you'll see a lot of the same components in these phones too, but at a lower price point than Oppo.

Dont be fooled by all the media attention this phone is getting anyway. Many smaller, unknown brands (such as Zopo and Xiaomi for example) seem to be hitting the tech blogs lately. It doesn't make the Oppo any better (or worse) than the other brands.

Am I right in saying that for intensive aps, quad-core doesn't matter if the clock speed is relatively low?

    I stand corrected?

one of the oppo advantages is very good ips screen, something that cheap chinese phones rarely have, next thing is rom, with proper manufacturer support xda will be full of different made to measure roms in no time

still, there are plenty of different chinese phones that are only worst in one-two aspects and are merely half the price...

    for example

    http://dx.com/s/quad%2bandroid?category=511&=&PriceMin=150&PriceMax=280&Sort=PriceH2L

keep in mind that you most likely will be hit with 23% vat + €6 when ordering from most of chinese sellers

What would be a reputable site to order Chinese brands of phones?really curious about this now because I can't justify spending €300+ on a brand name smartphone here, nor do I want to be tied to a 24 month contract to avail of a 'free' one.
