Does anyone know of a good car rental company operating out of Dublin Airport?
I need to book a car for a few days for Christmas and I'm seeing eye-watering prices. Less than 350e seems impossible :(

Peak season I'm afraid. They seem to double their prices at Christmas. There was another thread on this lately. Go back a few pages and you'll find it. There was alternatives suggested in it.

Cheers for that, found a thread with people in a similar situation. Fingers crossed ;)
Almost working out cheaper to buy a banger and insure it for a month than to go through the agencies

Enterprise Car Rental are normally quite good but I did a search there for rental from 21 to 28 December and there is over €100 difference between collecting the car in Dublin airport and the other Dublin locations not within the airport.

Yes I saw that they add 28e Airport fee. So I'm guessing it would be better to go to the city centre branch to rent

Try this web page - i have gotten good prices from here before, maybe Enterprise is Cheaper. Also like someone said get it from a non-airport location, get a taxi to and from the rental place, will be cheaper.

Just checked them out, 150e for a mini type car for roughly 6 days, plus 40e to have the excess reduced to 150e. Not so bad I think

Depending on arrival time getting a taxi from Dublin airport can take a while, then you've the journey to the car hire company and then you have to pay for the taxi. Can't see there being much of a total saving, in time and money, when you consider that the person is only here for a few days and would need to do the same in reverse when leaving the country.

Yep. But Dublin bus go out to the airport as well, I think it's the 16 so it'd be 2.90.

Cheers lads for all the advise. In the end I'm going to book with arguscarhire - for a Fiat Panda sized car I'm looking at roughly 190e fully insured for 6 days so around 31e per day which I think is a very good price. I was hoping I could get some sort of diesel but there is no way of asking for this option :(

They'd take longer than a taxi to get from the airport to the hire company. No point in saving a couple of Euro on a transfer if it takes you a day to get sorted.

What time is your flight getting in at? You've booked the base car and usually they go fast, if you're flight gets in late they may have none left:D

It's a bit late, around 8pm so I'm looking at midnight in Galway. If they have none left then I get an upgrade :D
