ge american style fridge freezer not freezing!!!!!

    we have a ge fridge freezer and it is not freezing, the mother board is not the problem as it was checked out, anyone know anything about these????? all fans have been hoovered out in the front and the back of the fridge as advised by company we bought it of. its now about 6 yrs old

    the first thing you have to determine is, is the compressor motor running, if so the narrower of the two pipes coming from the compressor should be hot , if not you can have a blockage in the system ,a worn comp. or at worst a gas leak. assuming its trying to freeze the problem should be in the freezing coils (evaporator) where it is most likely clogged up with ice mainly due to faulty defrosting elements. just make sure the cooling fan down at the compressor and the circulating fan are also running when plugged in. try defrosting the unit and run it again sometimes they become clogged up because a door may be left partially open , if its a faulty defrost element it will run ok for a few weeks until they clog up again
