You need to go to a main dealer with your vlc and a form of id and request the key code.

Then go to an auto locksmith with the code and get the key cut.

Depends on the make tbh. Vag keys come cut.

    That *sounds* expensive.
Anyone know how much its costs to get a spare if you already have one - I might get one and store it in a safe deposit box.

    Depends on the car.

A new key for a lexus is200 cost me €217 last year. The key was €177 and another €40 to code it.

200 for a renault card and 80 extra if you order a second at the same time.

The call out I'd probably adding to the cost

If you normally lock the car I would start by searching the car first and second. Good luck with your search.

So found they keys thank god (they fell into guinea pig cage ) going to get spare set cut at the weekend as the replacement cost is crazy

For your spare set could I suggest lock doctor.ie ( I see they have a rep in Limerick). I have used them in Kerry and have found them fantastic, they can even call to you or your place of work if you don't have the time to go to them.

They may be coded with a built in imboliser , ensure it starts the car before you rely on it as a back up
