    Hi guys,

Looking to do a half marathon in mid/late Sept as prep for Dublin.

Any recommendations? A Saturday one would be preferable, and don't mind traveling around the country if the race & course are daycent!

Not doing the Dublin Marathon series already?

Their half is on 21 Sept. Phoenix Park

Cheers for that, no not doing the Dublin Marathon series. Think one event in Dublin (i.e. the Big One!) is enough:)

Looking to tie in doing a half with seeing a bit of the country and making a weekend of it...

Race calendar stickied at the top of the page.

Also, just saw this on Facebook. Athlone Half Marathon, officially closed but re-opening on Weds with 50 more spots. Very cheap and a great race, as flat as you're likely to find anywhere.

THE RACE WILL REOPEN ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 21ST AT 11AM. THERE WILL ONLY BE 50 PLACES AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS.

REGISTRATION WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE PRECISION TIMING ENTRY SYSTEM. THE LINK IS PROVIDED BELOW.

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST SO PEOPLE ARE INFORMED.

AFTER THIS IT DOESNT MATTER WHETHER THE DOG CHEWED THE CREDIT CARD OR WHETHER YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE THOUGHT THEY HAD IT DONE. ITS LIKE THE LOTTO IF YOUR NOT IN YOU CANT RUN

Thanks for that, I have looked at the race calendar but I'm not sure how comprehensive it is as a couple of recent races I did are not on it... hence asking the question to fellow boardies.

No problem, wasn't meant as a jibe.

Anyway,I strongly recommend Athlone, there's a reason it sold out a month in advance.

For a fast course, Charleville Half would be my choice.

Cheers for the suggestions so far, some good ones in there!

I did the Galway Bay 1/2 in Salthill last year, but found it very boring and repetitive as it was a looped course, just wondering though has anyone done either of these other two in Galway:

Corrib Mask Half Marathon - www.activeglobal.com/running/galway-ireland/corrib-mask-half-marathon-challenge-2013

Marconi Half Marathon, Connemara - www.activeglobal.com/running/clifden-ireland/marconi-half-marathon-connemara-2013

If you're looking for a scenic route no better than Dingle I'd suggest.

The Belfast half Marathon is on 22nd September, registration closes 8th Sept, ( I think!!) It's the first time they're having a half in belfast, it starts at 9am on the Sunday.

Cool, didn't know Belfast had a half... will keep this in mind for future.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Marconi Half Marathon in Connemara on Sept 21. It's on a Saturday and ties in with Clifden Arts Festival so plenty of craic to be had afterwards.

Dingle is plan B but might just be too early.

Might be too soon for you but the Tullamore half marathon is on Saturday August 31st

Tullamore looks good too, but yep it's a bit early in my schedule. Cheers all the same!

Still leaning towards Marconi Half in Connemara...

The inaugural Carlow Half Marathon is in Leighlinbridge on Sept 1st and the Kilkenny Half Marathon is on Sept 7th from O'Loughlin Gaels GAA club in the city.

I actually did the Galway Bay last year, and to be honest while it was flat, I found it fairly monotonous and repetitive... that drag out to Mutton Island was not pretty, and I'm not a fan of running laps. Don't remember much music other than a girl dj at the end.

So far the two standouts for me are Dingle (albeit early in Sept) and the Marconi in Connemara

Looking for a half marathon late August / early September.

    Have found the following....
Saturday 30th August - Tullamore Half
Saturday 6th September - Kilkenny Half
Saturday 6th September - Dingle Half

    Are there any others?
Of above which is the flattest/fastest course?
    Which is the better organized?

    Thank you

Have a look at ferns. It was resurrected last year. It's run by the local club and the course is decent. I did it last year and enjoyed it. Shall be doing it again this year

Athlone Flatline HM - 13th September?

There's one in doonbeg in west clare in early September, 2nd I think. Don't know too much about it in terms of organisation. Know the area reasonably well so I'd imagine it's reasonable flat, no major climbs anyway.

Obviously not the 2nd as that's midweek. The 6th/ 7th so.

Have done dingle before. It's a tough enough one as it's got a net uphill elevation profile. Could be nasty on a windy day. No other negatives though. Class course to keep the mind occupied.

North Leitrim Glens Run, Manorhamilton, Sept 13

    http://northleitrimglensrun2014.com/

I have not done the half but did the 10k last year - well organised with nice scenery and good support around the town.
