Painting interior wall

    Hey guys,

So I plan to paint all the rooms in my house, and there are nail holes, screw holes, chips and other holes in most of the walls.

I came across this video which seems to do a good job at explaining how to mend the walls.

Firstly, I will be doing my DIY shopping in Woodies and here is the list of things I need to find:

    • compound, aka spackling
    • mesh joint tape
    • A small tin of primer
If I go to Woodies, would each of the items be listed as above, or are they under different names here in Ireland?
Also, which primer would you all recommend for interior walls?

I'm such a newbie at painting and want to get the walls mended before I waste too much money.

    Cheers :)

Why do you want to go to Woodies??????

Just go to any builders providers instead.

    It will be cheaper.

Oh and primer will be some ordinary water based emulsion paint that is watered down by around 20%.

Brush/toller on a coat of watered down paint oveer the filler/compound and leave to dry.

    That primes the filler/compound.

You prime a freshly plastered wall in the exact same way....usually watered down white emulsion paint.

    I see, cool.

Is the primer already watered down and do I need to get the same colour as the paint I'm getting for the wall? (Probably a stupid question).

Are there any compound/filler brands that are recommended? Any recommended brush brands that I should try that are not too expensive, or will I just get cheap brushes?

Woodies is just up the road for me, so it's more convenient.

    Thanks

Edit: I'm having trouble sourcing the mesh joint tape. Does it go by another name?

Just take a small bit of the emulsion paint you will be using to paint the walls with, and dilute it with some water.

You can dilute a smal amount of paint in an old cup or a small plastic bowl.

Simply put.......... you are watering down the paint,so that it will soak into the compound/filler and it will prime it.

Then once it is dry,you paint the walls as normal with the emulsion paint from the paint bucket itself.

    Scrim tape
