Improve Sky picture on new LG TV?

Got a new 42" LG 42LN540V TV from Currys. Maybe I'm imagining it but picture from Sky box is just not what I expected, its not a sharp as I would have thought especially when watching football and the camera pans out.Players even seem more pixelated or something. When I stand close to it,its just not crisp enough.Problem didnt exist with my old HiSense 42".

Watched a DVD last night and had no problems so I'm thinking the problem is the Sky HD box itself.Resolution output is 1080i,scart video output is set at RGB.Would a new scart lead improve things?Any other ideas?

You need to connect the box to the tv with a HDMI cable

Hdmi cable is what you need. Go buy the cheapest one in tesco and that will sort it

Argos, power city, dealz. Wherever you buy it don't spend more that a fiver on it coz a €2 or is just as good as a €40 one.

Great, thanks for that.Argos have one for €20 but Currys have one for €6.99.Dont have a poer city or dealz were I live.I'll check the local euro store tomorrow.

Do not buy the Argos one. They are very overpriced. As already advised you should try your local €2 shop. What you get there will likely be as good, if not better than the Argos one. Don't be fooled by sales people telling you about gold-plated cables either. There's no difference.

Got a cheap one for €2.99, hasn't made a difference. The only difference is Network 2 HD is definitely crisper and sharper than SD Net 2.I've put HD Resolution Output on Sky box at automatic and 1080i....doesn't seem to have changed.Any ideas?

Try 720p I find that to give the best quality.

HDMI benefits HD the most, hence your improvement on RTE2 HD. SD channels viewed via HDMI are a bit better than through an RGB Scart connection.

RTE 2 SD on Sky 102 isn't the best to begin with I think. How are BBC1 HD on 215 and BBC2 HD on 143 looking compared to their SD versions on 141 & 142? Also don't forget not all programming on HD channels is in HD, but upscaled SD.

If anything the SD channels were better through the scart. BBC1 HD is sharper than SD version, although theres a delay in changing channels from SD to HD as its set to Automatic. It doesn't make any difference whether I view the SD channels in 576,720p,1080i or Automatic.
In fairness, the BBC's,RTE's etc maybe have slightly improved but Sky Sports News(and all Sports channels) isn't great, still a bit blocky and pixelated at certain times.

    Check your signal strength!

Signal strength and quality both fine. Basically I'm just a little disappointed in picture quality, maybe I expected too much. But picture on my old plasma was as good if not a bit better.

    byte

I'd leave the Sky box on 1080i, as I find this works best on 1080p TV's as one would expect. That, and all Sky HD broadcasts are 1080i. Germany seem keen on the 720p format for their HD channels.

THen you'll have to mess around in the picture settings menu of your TV. Is there 100Hz on this TV? If so, disable it. Maybe disable other picture "enhancing" features to see if you can improve it somewhat.

A lot of the SD channels on Sky seem heavily compressed nowadays anyway.

Also, many plasma tellies are/were awesome compared to LCD televisions IMO.

Byte is spot on. Out of the box presets are probably brutal and make the picture look worst once in real living room conditions. And I'm afraid that is correct, Plasma, although a dying technology, at its best, LCD struggles to compete. Except in Sales of course!
