So, I went to change the roll in my k-1000 for a new one, and discovered that the film wouldn't wind up, it felt like the sprockets were slipping on the holes. I tried m'best but turned out all of the film ended on wrapped around the "as-exposed" side if you know what I mean - nothing in the canister!

I carefully rolled it up and put it in a box but I'm fairly sure there's no point paying a lab to develop it, is there? I've nothing particular on the roll, to be honest.

nope. If you'd opened the back a crack, just to check that it was all wrapped up on the exposed side, then closed it, and unrolled it in perfect darkness or something chances are you might have saved something. If you just unrolled it in daylight or even dim light then there won't really be anything worth saving. Why did it happen though ? Is the film rewind release button broken maybe ? Did you try and wind on the last frame so violently that you tore the film out of the canister ?

This, I think. Though not intentionally, I'd been reasonably careful! Just kackhandedness I think. Chalking it to experience!
