Springer Spaniel with extended nipples but never had a litter?

    My friends dog is only about 8 months old, she's never been bred but her tummy is very swollen and her nipples are very extended, she's behaving as always and she been in their family from 8 weeks old so its certain she was never bred and she's not pregnant. Also she's behaving perfectly normally... no pain or sickness or dietary changes...

    What could that cause be?

    they don't think she has been in season and she has no other symptoms of a phantom pregnancy
