I have been on illness benefit since last November. I was working casually previous to this and am just wondering does my employer have to keep my job open while I am out sick? I have never received a P45 just a P60 for 2012 will this be sufficient for me if I have to claim or will i need to get a P45 I have not worked at all in 2013?

I would be very grateful for any advice.

You will need a final cert for the DB. If you are no longer employed you will need the P45 or at least a letter from the employer to confirm you are no longer in their employment. An employer can terminate your position while on sick leave but they should have informed you of this. If you have heard nothing from the employer you will need to contact them to find out your position.
Your employment position will need to be clarified before you can sign on, a P60 does not prove unemployment.
