Anyone used a cooling pad with an old black or white Macbook?

Situation is as follows: I'm running quite an old Black Macbook, Macbook2,1 from Christmas 2007. It's quite a trooper, truth be told - running Snow Leopard, being used as a workstation for music production, hardly any problems except for an aging hard drive.
However, recently its overheating has been rapidly deteriorating to the point at which I'm having regular kernel panics and the base of the laptop is so hot it actually hurts to touch it. This happens over time regardless of what I'm using it for, although Flash Player seems to be a prime culprit in driving up the heat considerably.
I've already tried hoovering the fans and I still have this issue. I DON'T want to do anything right now which would require giving the machine away for repair for any length of time or having to open it up and replace parts myself - with a loose hinge on one side of the screen it's just too fragile to take any risks. So I'm looking for an external solution if possible, and considering a cooling pad.

Has anyone here ever used one, how much are they, and can I find one in a shop in Dublin?

Also: Before anyone suggests, I've already tried resetting the SMC multiple times, no joy. I've used third party apps to turn the fan up to its absolute maximum speed only to find that it was already pretty much operating at max speed. So internal solutions aren't going to work here. Recently I've tried putting the ice pack from a cooling back under the machine, but I've been warned that if this leads to condensation getting inside it, I'm f*cked.

    Any advice?

I haven't used a cooling pad but I'm certain it will help a little. You could even make your own by sandwiching fans between two sheets of thin plywood (with suitable holes cut first). Power them from a simple plug-top power supply. I usually have a few lying around from old external Hard Drives, phone chargers etc.

P.s. what has Flash got to do with music production?

Might be worth taking the bottom off and just cleaning as much dust as possible off the fan and surrounding areas.
