It'll be interest to see the irish revenue take on this.

If your on natural gas at home all you need is a certified cng compressor, quiet common in certain parts of the states.

The problem with CNG is the refilling time and lack of infrastructure in Ireland. It's a pity Bord Gais didn't invest in the technology like the ESB did with electric vehicles.

Its not too late yet, when you consider that the electric infrastructure went up only very recently, though I do expect this would a more arduous project.
If it were ever to be the case that our offshore resources do turnout to have usable Gas, (and if we can get it back at a reasonable price from Shell et al) then maybe it could provide the extra-urban fuel of choice for energy independence. In fact that two pronged approach seems to make a lot of sense.

So perhaps its not to be written off yet.

While I note your signature and its clearly something you are vested in, and thats fine, that isnt the problem with CNG. Thats just some of the issues, but the real problems with CNG for car (ie not buses and trucks) usage is the absurd weight of the higher pressurised tanks and control systems, the considerably lower energy (calorific) rating of the fuel vs LPG (ie crap range) and the lower performance and general unsuitability for higher than bottom spec-performance vehicles.

Also the warning sticker on the rear of the vehicle is a turnoff for private automotive (car) usage. While LPG isnt perfect, its entirely viable for the majority of vehicles and use cases. CNG is not, IMO, viable for private usage.
