Pretty easy DIY to get much better and tighter bass. A good few shallow subwoofers are available on the market for the BMW designed as a direct replacement of the stock ones: Earthquake, Morel, Gladen, Jenhert for example.

The same principal actually apply to any BMW E6x/E9x/E7x etc. I wish we had those locations available on the E39 and other cars of that generation.

The car and the new subwoofer set.

Get a torx of size 50 to remove those 4 bolts holding the seats.
No need to remove the battery. But if you are unsure and afraid to trigger the airbag light in case you overstretch that airbag connector underneath the seat, disconnect the negative connector of the battery and secure it in a cloth or use insulation tape.

Secure the seat in a position that will make your work comfortable. The coupe only has 2 doors (No kidding), so there is not much room to play on the back. Saloon are easier to do.

Get that enclosure out. It is hold into place by 2 bolts of size 10.

Cut off the original plug wires (x2), one at a time. They are color coded (The ground has a brown line on the wire).

Extend those 2 wires by about 10-15cm long wires and crimp those new speaker connectors. You need to extend the original wires because they are so short you will no manage to connect them to the new subwoofer.

Now connect the plugs to the new subwoofer before you install it back to the original enclosure.
You can wrap the enclosure with sound deadening material too. But the BMW enclosure does the job well and it is not necessary.

Test the sub before you put everything back together.

    Job done.
