Upgrade from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit

Have a Windows 7 PC running on 32bit but want to update it to 64bit.
I've read you have to back everything up as it will do a clean install of 64bit. Trouble is kids are running Steam games, mine craft etc. I have a few years of pictures on which are backed up to Skydrive.
Read that restoring onto 64bit from 32 bit could be an issue.

Any suggestions how I go about it without losing user data?

Any particular reason why you want to "update"?

Correct, you can't install 64-bit Windows over an existing 32-bit Windows installation.

    Using the Steam Backup Feature

There should be no "issues" with Skydrive on 64-bit Windows. However, the "cloud" is no substitute for a local backup of personal files (ext HDD, DVD, etc).

Not really an update / upgrade to go 64bit, unless you need to use very memory hungry applications and need to use more than 4GB of RAM (most people don't)

Does your PC even have more than 4GB installed in it or are you planning to upgrade it?

Install this on your current setup http://www.gamesave-manager.com/ to grab all your save game files. Put the output files onto a disk or upload it somewhere. Reinstall all your games on new system and this program and it will put the saves back in their proper folders for you
