RTE Radio A missed opportunity

I think RTE have missed an opportunity to reinvent 2fm by not using vacancies on RTE radio 1 to move Tubridy back. Now 2fm is trying to sound young again while having a chat show for the over 40s as its flagship program.

You mean that they should have tried to improve 2FM by disimproving RTE1?

I actually thought he was really good on Radio 1. Far better than John Murray or Miriam O'Callaghan. His 2FM show is truly dire though.

I reckon he'll be off to England sooner rather than later, whenever the right permanent gig comes up BBC Radio 2. Listening to bits of his fill-in slots over the summer, it's not my thing, but I have to admit he's pretty slick and far more in his element than when trying to fill G Ryan's shoes, and they seem to go for the 'posh paddy' thing over there.

But yeah, I thought they'd move Today back to 9 and slot Tubridy in between 11 and 1 on RI, seemed like the logical thing to do, especially if they're gonna move Today in a harder news direction under Sean O'Rourke.

I not fan, but I think if he had just brought his Radio 1 show over to 2fm he wouldn't have lost nearly as many listeners.

Very much disagree with any assertion pertaining to Tubridy's slickness on BBC radio 2, in fact i began a thread to that effect. The BBC seem to have a fascination with the Irish accent and in Tubs thats all they are getting, he gives off the air of an intellectual but there is really very little substance to Tubs. He always sounds in a hurry to me. There is no poise or grace about his presentation skills like you find with someone like Jeremy Vine. As Eamon Dunphy would say, he's a spoofer who lacks real cerebral depth and an ability to articulate. I genuinely believe much like the boffins in montrose the head honchos at the BBC have been duped by appearances. Let him go to the UK I say.

I happened to listen to an hour of his BBCR2 show today. While the insinuation that he is a spoofer is very harsh I wouldn't classify his input as smooth. There was a segment called 'battle of the bands' today and one of the contestants lines went dead just after the start of the segment. He then started to talk with the other contestant and instead of killing time by building up a bit of banter with the other contestant he cut to a song. It just seemed like a missed opportunity.
