New female religious order arrives in Ireland

Their move to Drogheda from the Bronx where they were formerly residing came about following a conversation between Bishop Smith and Cardinal Dolan about the Sisters of Mercy leaving Drogheda, where they had been since 1854.

Cardinal Dolan, who was educated by the Sisters of Mercy, asked the new New York-based Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal, to establish a convent at St Mary’s in Drogheda.

So Cardinal Dolan of New York told them to go to Drogheda, to make up the numbers there. Hardly a sign of some great "renewal".
Those Americans always have great teeth though, I'll say that for them.

The Irish in centuries past were called to go to other countries to make up numbers.. in fact there are Irish saints buried all over Europe. For example St. Cataldo (St. Cathal) who is buried in Sorrento.

Today there are still hundreds of Irish Priests and Nuns who work around the world.

Contrary to what Popular opinion might think there is actually a real renewal of the Church in Ireland.

I get from the tone of your reply you are not Christian or maybe not Catholic, fine.. But I can say hand on heart the community has been made feel extremely welcome in Drogheda. They have had some local women express interest in religious life. Mother Teresa started as ONE person and made a difference as best she could helping those she could.

Excellent news, and may they have a productive and prayerful time within our shores.

Thanks for posting this, it is great news and I believe the Church is certainly making a comeback in Ireland especially this year of Faith.

Thats just what I was thinking - I was also looking at the plucked eyebrows - how shallow am I?

No sure if there are many Catholics on this forum. But for those who are great sign of Catholic Renewal in Ireland.

Franciscan Sister’s new convent opened in Drogheda this week.

I'm familar with the Fransican Fiars of the Renewal and they are a great order, and a great asset to any commuinity. So best of luck to the Sisters.

Agreed, all the best and many prayers to this order. They give up alot and live very poor meager chaste lives, something many of us here could not comprehend. God Bless them.

I wonder will they be as groovy in Drogheda as these Franciscans in Harlem.
