I've been looking at making the switch to campy. Looks like shimano is dominant from a quick web search, any decent shops deal campagnolo?

    Cheers, avant la lettre!

I've seen Campy in some of the stock in Cycle/Bike (Mary's Abbey).

And to hijack my own tred a little, can anyone confirm that I will have to say goodbye to my wheels?

Am pretty sure Cycle Super Store is a "Campy Pro" shop so I'd say they should have all the bits you need.

And I reckon you do need new wheels or a new free hub at least. - don't know if you change that though.

Depends on the wheel manufacturer-I run both Campy and SRAM on Mavic wheels and Mavic sell a free hub converter for about 40 euro. It is a SRAM and Shimano compatible spare.

Cycle Superstore are very good for Campy spares as are Fitzcycles in Kilmacud.

What wheels are you using? As far as I know the only wheels that you can't just simply buy a Campagnolo specific freehub for, are shimano ones.

No problem with mavic, fulcrum or most other branded wheels. Freehubs are inexpensive and a very easy job to change them.

Free hubs are not that inexpensive. I've just bought one for a Fulcrum wheel.
    70 yours.

It's all relative to the price of the wheel. Expensive if its for a fulcrum 7 but cheap for a set of campag hyperons...

I got wheels built up with ultegra hubs

I don't believe there is a campagnolo freehub available for these unfortunately

    OP, How come you're changing?

Don't want a Shimano v Campag debate, just wondering as I'd guess most changes like this would involve a new bike or a change from a very old groupset.

but to be more serious, i like the sound of the 'double down' shift that chorus seems to have. im happy enough with 6700, other than my own mistake in going for a triple with a gappy cassette. :/

at the mo' its really up in the air, which is why i was looking for an LBS where i could give campy a test run

thanks all for the replies. guess a trip to tallagh is on the cards, best not wear me bohs jersey after last nite tho:)

Cycleways in city centre are another official Campag Pro-Shop so I'd expect them to stock Campag too. I've also seen Campag parts for sale in Cycle Surgery (based in Snow+Rock in Dundrum shopping centre). And from their website it looks like Fitz Cycles in Stillorgan sell Campag too.

As regards your wheels, from what I understand you can use a Shimano 10-speed cassette directly with a Campag 10-speed groupset but the gear changes probably wouldn't be as smooth as with a Campag cassette (though according to this info dating from 2008, if you use a SRAM rear derailleur that may sort out the smoothness). However, if you are going with 11-speed Campag from the outset then a Shimano cassette won't work with that as the Shimano 11-speed has different spacing to Campag's 11-speed.

There are some companies that a cassette of one brand and will convert it to the appropriate spacing of a cassette from another brand but they can be pricey, but the freewheel on your existing wheelset might not be wide enough to accommodate an 11-speed cassette to start with so that might not be an option.

If its a ten speed gruppo then you can get a cassette from ambrosio that is Shimano splined for a Shimano hub but has campag spacings.
Humphries cycles in Finglas are the main campag place. Go there.

Nobody in Dublin / Ireland carries more campag than cycle superstore!
Slane cycles are also a top supplier..
If you want to ride a campag kitted bike go up to cycle superstore..
Fwiw I have chorus... Excellent groupset...

Campag, once you ride it you will want it.

Humphries Cycles is the only place to go

Humphries is an approved dealer and one of the only approved service agent for Campag especially the EPS.
