For me the Suntour forks are a complete deal breaker! For your budget and if you really intend to ride offroad then you will have to buy 2nd hand! The 2011 bike at least has half decent brakes!

There's a Giant XTC for sale, just round the corner in Cycling Adverts., that looks as if it might suit you. It appears to be far superior, in every respect, to any of the bikes, you reference.
it has a carbon frame and really good components.it is quite light, lighter than the ones, you mention.
I have no connection to that seller.

Thanks C3PO, I am buying this through the cycle to work scheme so would need to buy new :) Budgeted around 200 for accessories for a total of €800max

If you plan on ordering form winstanley's I'd recommend ringing up and making 100% sure that they have the bike in stock before you pay for anything. Have heard many stories of month long delays because the bike was not in stock even though it said it was on the site.

As the others above said though you should definitely buy second hand. If you are only spending 600 there is no point in buying new and you will get much better value for money looking at used bikes.

Forget the accessories in the short term and put the money into a bike! Fox or Rock Shox forks are a minimum requirement if you really intend to go Offroad!

Ok thanks. I think you might have a point there as all I really need is a helmet :)

So I will call them on Monday and see if they have http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/55017/Giant_Talon_2_2013_Bike in stock.

Should be about €750 all in then.

I agree with the comments about the accessories you can get them as you go.

On the bikes I think the Commencal bikes in that price range are good value, hydraulic discs and reasonable fork for the money:

And there are some great bargains on Chain Reaction (free postage), worth a look on the website, example:
