I hope you guys can help me, Whenever I try install any games or software that uses installshield wizard the application starts and then does nothing, it stays at the beginning of installation and will not move, I have left it alone for over 12 hours and get no movement.

It used to work with no problems, I have built the pc myself back in April

    Windows 8 64 bit

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue as it is really frustrating when trying to install anything.

I'm not a 100% sure but doesn't this problem be associated with net framework, did you update your net framework in windows update ? could be just a bug with that and might need an update fix. I could be completely wrong though, just looking it up here.

Microsoft has a "fix it" program for this installshield wizard problem .... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910816#FixItForMeAlways

EDIT: Have a look here to see if one of these fixes can sort it.... http://www.ehow.com/how_2109053_around-install-shield-errors.html

I see, did you try the manual fix ?. if i find a proper fix for it for windows 8 i'll post it here.

I would also recommend that you go into "command prompt" as administrator and type in SFC /SCANNOW and hit enter to see can it fix any file system errors. There is a space between SFC & the forward slash.

    Command prompt... windows 8... http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/command-prompt-windows-8.htm

I just tried that and it said there were several files that could not be repaired, I checked the log and it said that msiexec could not be repaired. I am pretty sure thats installshield

Not quite: InstallShield is a tool for packaging software in such a way as to allow it to be easily installed under Windows, while msiexec is the executable for the Windows Installer service. If SFC is reporting that it can't be repaired, you've got a serious problem with your install as you won't be able to install anything.

To be honest, if I were seeing what you've just described, I'd be looking at either System Restore or a reinstall/factory reset. There's no way that having Windows broken in a way that means it can't install anything (even its own updates) is going to be a good thing.

Just a heads up if you do a system restore... if for any reason that the system restore fails, do the system restore in safe-mode only as sometimes the system restore can fail in normal windows mode.

Just make sure you backup everything onto an external drive if you plan on doing a complete re- installation of the windows operating system.

I spent a while looking into this installshield wizard problem but only found a very limited amount of fixes. The only one that fixed this problem with some success is from the manual fix on this link... http://www.ehow.com/how_2109053_around-install-shield-errors.html

If system restore doesn't fix the problem, i'd suggest doing a CHKDSK and then another SFC /SCANNOW before you do a complete re-installation of windows just to see if it fixes the file errors.

Here’s how to run CHKDSK in Windows 8.

First, launch the Start Screen by pressing the Windows key or clicking the lower left corner of the Taskbar. From the Start Screen, search for the Windows Command Prompt by typing “cmd”. Right-click on the Command Prompt and choose “Run as Administrator” from the bar at the bottom of the screen.

Type the command “chkdsk” followed by a space, then the letter of the drive you wish to examine or repair. type in CHKDSK C: /F there is a space between the last k and C: and another space after C: and the forward slash.. Hit enter and let it work away, when it is complete restart the pc then run SFC /SCANNOW again to see did it fix the file errors.
