Transferring files remotely

To put it simply, I have a NAS at home(ReadyNas NV+) that I can access remotely.
In one of the USB ports is an external drive.
I'm away from home for a few days and need to transfer the files from the attached HDD to the NAS but when I connect remotely it only transfers at my connection speed even though the 2 are physically connected.

A long shot but any ideas how I can transfer them quicker?

    Thanks

Can you tell me how you're connecting in to the NAS?

Using the supplied software ReadyNas Remote.
    https://remote.readynas.com/download.html

Requires you to create and account which you then add to trusted users on the web interface of the NAS.

if you have SSH or shell access to your NAS you will be able to access a local (to NAS) file transfer ie your USB drive speed.
