A word of warning if ordering from dabs.ie

Looking between hardwareversand.de and dabs.ie, there was only a small price difference between dabs and HWVS for the stuff I wanted to order, so I went with dabs (since they'll take a credit card etc).

2 of the items on the dabs.ie were "Ordered upon request". I didn't think too much of this, as I imagined they'd be able to get them from their suppliers within 3-5 days.

1 of the items I ordered was scheduled to take 3 weeks to arrive at dabs, and the other item has "delivery delayed, arrival unknown". You only get to see the estimated delivery times after you order the parts.

I've cancelled those parts and will source them elsewhere, but though I would warn people.

TL;DR Don't order stuff from dabs.ie if it's marked "Ordered upon request"

That can happen with most places if something is not in stock. They're at the mercy of the supplier. I had to RMA an item with Dabs after a year and they refunded the money on it. So, I have no problem shopping there again. But yeah, if it's not stock you're better off going somewhere else.

Ordered a PSU that I didnt Realise was ordered upon Request

8 Days later,, Nothing,,, Got Sick of waiting emailed them,, at 3pm in the evening, asking what was going on,,

2 hours later got an auto email from them that suddenly it had been Sent, 10 minutes later followed by a 2 line
support email response to my email saying item had now been Shipped... WTF...Even when the site was saying
    Delivery Delayed etc... arrival unknown

I have to Admit I like Dabs and use them a lot.. but as the OP says,, be careful,, am still going, but,,, how?... But....
    sigh

Back in '07, I ordered a motherboard, memory and a CPU of Dabs. This was my first order with them. Shortly after that they requested proof of my address for security reasons. I discussed this issue with a representative on their IRC chat, available on their website (don't know if they still do this). I was told more than once that it was sorted out, yet a fortnight later I was still waiting for my stuff to be dispatched. I gave up and cancelled the order. I'll never order off them again.

I ordered a Samsung 22" Monitor from them about 4 years ago. Its arrived by courier with a cracked screen. I raised a RMA and I sent it back. Was waiting over 6 months for a refund. They kept telling me they had refunded my card but it did not happen. After a million emails (a bit of an exaggeration) and phone calls it eventually appeared on my card one day. Maybe they have improved since then but ever since that day I have never considered them despite their decent value.

Used them on and off over the years, including the parts for a new build a couple of weeks ago. No problems to date and will use them again. For after sales service and support, I've always been surprised how good Dell have been over the years, including a chap from Scotland talking me through taking a Precision PSU to bits to help me find and replace a blown capacitor (which incidentally also included carefully lifting the seal declaring my warranty was void if the seal was broken ;) ) The high end kit is IMO overpriced, but the low end workhorse stuff seems reasonable value for the service provided.

You only really find out how good a supplier is when something goes wrong, and I usually give them the chance to prove this first hand.

Another update: 4 days later, and things which were in stock have now mysteriously gone to "Awaiting stock from supplier; delivery delayed". I'll think twice before ordering from dabs.ie again.

Check if you can cancel the order without penalty?
