So ive been reading a few threads regarding this, but any updated info would be appreciated.
I bought a little Ford Puma to have as a fun car, but wonder what cheapest insurance options are.
Ive come up with : A) find an insurer that will let me insure 2 cars - does anyone know any that do?
    B) Find an insurer that does open driving, and thus allowing myself to insure the Puma and have hubby drive it, and do vice versa with the family car.

Can anyone give me any better tips or advice?
edited to add, if anyone knows any companies that allow open driving can they say, im finding it hard finding them online by searching

Your cheapest option is to take a second policy with an insurance company that will allow you to mirror your no claims bonus onto a second car.

Have your husband named on current car to cover him to drive it and have yourself as main driver on the car with mirrored bonus.

Getting open drive on a second car or one with a mirrored bonus will be tricky.

Off the top of my head the only company that will allow you to mirror the bonus is AIG/Chartis. Try calling them directly or through a brokers that deal specifically with car insurance like Quote Devil.

Another option could be for your husband to insure the puma in his name.

The ability to do this will depend on if he has his own policy or has just been a named driver on your car. If he has just been a named driver most insurers wiil allow what's known as an introductory no claims bonus for him to take a policy in his name with you as a named driver.

Axa MAY let you mirror your bonus as well, but you'd need to talk to them and ask. Otherwise you are looking at starting from scratch with a new policy.

Do you and your husband already have a car and policy each i.e. this is a second policy for whoever is taking it out?

Thanks for that info - blasman the family car is in his name as is the policy under which im a named driver.

If it's a 1998 then you can insure it as a classic (15+ years old). That's what I have done with a 1995 car.

I was wondering this as well. Basically we need a second car, other half has only named driver experience and has only been driving a year.

I have six years no claims.

I'm the policy holder on our current car. Were moving about 40 mins from his work so need the second car for school runs.

What's the cheapest way of doing things, I actually thought the only option was to each have a policy in our own name, is there another way it'd work out cheaper for us

I had the same issue and Setanta Insurance sorted me out with the second car with full non claims bonus discount from first. The other car is insured through a different company.

They let you use one no-claims bonus on two different cars with two different insurers?

yes. I spent about a week trying to find an insurance company to do this and I found a reference to Setanta doing it one some forum (probably boards). I called a broker and they set me up. I just needed my NCB cert from other car/insurance company.

    Rate was really good too.

I can PM you my broker details if you want.
