I just got a GoPro hero 3, and it's acting up :( I recorded a video with it yesterday, but now it won't power on. It will beep, but it won't fully power on. My PC won't recognize it now, although it did yesterday. Can anyone help?

    Battery empty?

Seems like a common problem with them that could be caused by faulty batteries but people reporting bringing them back and getting replacements without question for this issue to if it's in warranty bring it back and get a replacement.

Thanks for the reply. It seems to be working now, if it happens again, I will get a replacement battery.

I'm just after ordering the Black edition to replace my old Gen 1 Hero. The step up means I'm going to need a few extra bacpacs to replace the bunch of AAA NiMH's I carted around for the old one (not to mention a serious investment in Micro SD cards for the first time). I don't mind spending the bit extra on the GoPro branded ones if they're going to have some performance advantage, but I'm hearing the Wasabi batteries are arguably better? Higher capacity, but generally better value?

    Minor thread hijack, sorry OP.

I ordered no-name H3 batteries from ebay and they are identical to the originals. I got 3 batteries and an extral chager for the price of 1 genuine battery

Any recommendations on cards? I'm reading its having a tendency to have failures with SanDisk SDXC cards, which seems rather odd.

I suspect that thats because 90% of people have SanDisk cards, combined with the ****ty firmware they originally shipped with screwing up cards. I lost a SanDisk 64gb card back in Jan to corruption. It miss behaved for 2 days before failing so I lost 2 days of footage... That said I got all the firmware updates for the camera and a warranty replacement for the card (and a spare 32 in case it happens again) and I haven't had any trouble since. Battery life is poor but other then that its a fantastic camera. The new improved iOS app is fantastic.

So right now I have 1 64gb Sandisk Ultra and 1 32gb Sandisk Ultra.

Could you tell me how to avoid corrupting the card? It happened to me, and I haven't updated it since, I'm running what it came with. I didn't want to risk it happening again.

First thing to do is update the camera, the firmware from earlier in the year when they came out is full of bugs. The current version is stable and a lot better.

I only format and delete stuff using the camera not a computer and I generally format the card (in the camera) before I start shooting anything.

Another thing not to do is run the camera with no battery in it but with the gopro battery bacpack on it. It appears to work but produces crazy side effects.
