This Sunday sees the Nat R/R Champs for A3 riders and Junior riders in Omagh.
Nearly 100 riders in the A3 race and 51 Juns on the start list.
51 doesn't appear a big field but when you consider there were just 20 plus riders in the Champs in Castlebar in 2011 its def going in the right direction.Cant wait for the Junior race to be honest, because whilst there are without doubt overwhelming favourites for the race, such has been the performances of many Juniors this year you feel anything could happen on the day.I'd say about 25 of them in with a realistic chance of a medal.Nearly 20 Juniors have won combined A3/Jun races this year.A fascinating day in prospect with our best U18 talent on display i hope.

The Junior race will be one of the best of the year. Its not too lumpy so might not suit some of the noted names to blow it open but nonetheless it will be great.

As i thought this jun race turned in to a great one yesterday.Attack after attack from the start and after about 65 k the elastic snapped and about 12 riders went clear.Only contained one of the lads whe were away at the World track champs as the road legs weren't back. The 12 riders went out to about 3 minutes and for the last lap they just had go after go at each other. Was driving behind the break for the last 50 k or so and it was great.Average speed 40.7kph so there was very little negative to report.Biggest field in years and congrats to Fintan Ryan on the win,and hats off to our current junior crop.Hope they all stay around our sport and continue to flourish.

Sorry Colm but couldn't comment as didn't see any of it.Just heard through the radio at regular intervals that the A3 race was losing a little over a minute a lap to the jun race as they were keeping an eye on that situation.Always felt the A3 race would pan out that way in the absence of the pests [Juniors].

Despite efforts to stay away when the elastic snapped it seemed a bunch sprint was inevitable, you really miss the juniors in A3 only races...

Plenty of attempts by a few lads to get up the road but no one was willing to commit with them. Lads would cycle up to a breakaway and sit on the back of it. Why bother, just stay in the peloton if you're not going to contribute!!

It reminded me of a slightly longer A4 race to be honest!!

It didn't matter to our Swords man, he timed his jump at the end to get the victory and the national champs jersey. Chapeau John Rowan
